On Saturday morning we all went out to the garden and harvested apples, acorn squash, potatoes, and anasazi beans. The anasazi beans are cool - they are red and white like a cow. When Jera (the German Shepard) walked on them the beans fell out of the shells and we had to pick them up off the ground. Cute Miss Mya said she was herding cows and picked them all up. As we were picking the beans, Zane asked "Is Grandma a farmer? I think I kind of like her. No, I really like her."

Lost Keys & Answered Prayers

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_F4IxaAV0_7s/SrwZFk6nMQI/AAAAAAAAAA4/NmEWjLziE9g/s320/100_4141.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5385206838027825410" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_F4IxaAV0_7s/SrwVY_VPm1I/AAAAAAAAAAw/_h7m3VG17nc/s320/100_4146.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5385202773489851218" />
If you are LDS you've heard this story a million times in sacrament meeting: "I looked and looked, but I couldn't find my keys anywhere, so I knelt down and said a prayer, asking Heavenly Father to help me find them. As soon as I was done I stood up and walked right to my keys." Here's our version....We were fishing on the north side of Ferron Reservoir. The fishing was good, so we kept fishing, right up to dark. Jayci had walked back to the car at some point to get the fish chain, and as far as any of us knew, still had the keys. She didn't, and it was too dark to find them. We looked and looked, all over the beach, in the tall grass and bulrush, in the rocks, in the tackle boxes, and in our pockets. Over and over. Finally it was pitch black, so we stopped looked and started walking. We walked across the dam. It was so dark that Zane and I got lost for a few minutes. We knew where we were, but we couldn't see anybody else. After we all made it across the dam we walked up the road to the creek and took a little shortcut up to the road that leads to the cabin. Thank goodness for that shortcut because it probably cut 1/2 mile off our evening stroll. We finally got to the cabin, made dinner, and ate. That is when we realized that the tackle box had also been left on the other side of the lake. We decided that Del would take a lantern and our only flashlight and walk back to where we were fishing, look for the keys, and get the tackle box. If he couldn't find the keys, at least he wouldn't loose his tackle box, too. Before he left we decided to have a family prayer and ask for help in finding the keys and keeping Del safe. Within forty minutes, Del was back at the cabin with the car and the tackle box. He found the keys in the tall grass. The way he did it is he would put the lantern down and then start walking, using the flashlight to canvas the ground. Eventually, he spotted the glint of the keys in the grass. Our lost keys prayer was answered, and answered fast, but I'm not going to be telling about it in sacrament meeting any time soon.

Little Grand Canyon Marathon

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_F4IxaAV0_7s/Sq2hqqMj5zI/AAAAAAAAAAo/zPD2ykgXhnc/s320/100_4157.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5381134884031162162" />

Del ran the half-marathon on Saturday, September 12th. The message is good.

I stink at this.

Somebody needs to teach me how to make this work. Del has worked WAY more than me. Del is the Technology Director at our school, and the Testing Director, and the English teacher, and the general go to guy. He has taken one day off this summer, and that was yesterday. He has spent the whole summer improving the technology at our school, and it has been a long, hard job, and he isn't done, but I'm very grateful. All his hard work is gong to make my job easier and funner.
Our kids (squids) are good. Jayci went to camp, again. Delan loves scouts. Mya has a best friend. Zane had liberty spikes for a week, now it is a mohawk.
School starts in a week, and we'll be teaching every body else's kids again, soon. I'll update more often, I promise.

Four Goblins

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_F4IxaAV0_7s/SXU77IRq7qI/AAAAAAAAAAY/fWYuM-Y74Kk/s320/January+2009+058.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5293202824063807138" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_F4IxaAV0_7s/SXU77neyFgI/AAAAAAAAAAg/c-tLQxTpVow/s320/January+2009+059.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5293202832440301058" />

So...our annual trip to Goblin Valley went a lot better this year. So instead, I've invited people to our blog.

The Funk Family is doing well. Del is training to run a triatholon. He loves it. He ran a half-marathon in Huntington, Utah in September. He is now teaching 9th, 10th, and 11th grade English, 7th grade CTE, and Yearbook. He is also the technology specialist in the junior high and high school. He really likes it, but hates all the grading (he reads so many papers every week that it would make most people cry).

I am still teaching 4th grade (third year of it). Jayci is in my class this year. This has been a blessing and a challenge. Sometimes we are too much alike and it causes some problems in class, but we deal with it.

Delan is in 5th grade. He earned his Arrow of Light award in October. He worked very hard on it. He is looking forward to going to Washington D.C. with his class in April. They will be there for a week. We have to help with the big fundraiser in February - Mardi Gras. If any of you would like to purchase tickets to the event or would like to donate an item or a service for the silent auction it would be GREATLY appreciated, just let me know.

Jayci is in 4th grade and is doing well. She is tired of people worrying about her and treating her differently because of the diabetes. She played softball this summer and had a great time. Del's cousin, Lisa, was her coach and taught Jayci a lot. I kicked her out of 4th grade math and made her go to 5th grade math - she was bored and needed a challenge.

Mya is in 1st grade. She is an amazing reader. She has decided to start reading chapter books. She really blossoms at school. All of her shyness melts away and she has a lot of friends. Sometimes it is hard to believe that a couple of years ago we were worrying about her not talking. There are days now when we wish she still didn't. :)

Zane is in kindergarten. Apparently he is a ladies man. Several of the girls in his class have fights over who gets to stand by him or play with him. He is oblivious to this. He is still funny most of the time, unless he isn't getting his way, then he is whinny! He has a million and one facial expressions and uses them all the time.

That's the Funks in a nutshell. We hope you are having a good year and that you have an even better year in 2009. We are planning on ours being fabulous.

I'm a blogger

I'm officially a blogger now.
